Tips on Travel Towels

Inside Travelog.net

travels.gif (812 bytes) This is the heart of Travelog.net; these are the stories of my travels.  This is a taste of what life is like on the road: what you see, hear, feel, taste, and smell, the excitement, the problems, the discoveries, the friendships, the hardships, the triumphs, the weird food and the strange toilets.

Thoughts, hints and tips on traveling, particularly focused on the "backpack traveler" style.  What does it take to spend a year traveling around the world?  What should I pack?  Where do I find the information I need?   What about health?  Can I drink the water?  Are the native friendly?  Does the taxi really cost that much?

technology.gif (1602 bytes) How Travelog.net is produced with a ThinkPad 560 laptop and a Kodak DCS-120 digital camera.  Producing Travelog.net less about what technology is used, but how to  do the most with the least--and still have time to enjoy travel.

Photography and Travel are my two passions.   Luckily, they go together very well.  Here are a sample of the thousands of pictures I have taken over the last year to give you a sense of the visual richness of the places I have visited.

Some background information about Travelog.net; how it was started and why the author subjected himself to publishing a web site while on the road.

Travelog.News
May 28, 1998

I added a page of reader comments.  Thanks to all the  Travelog.net for all the kind words.

May 26, 1998.
I have updated the design.  Larger type and a softer background should make reading easier.  I also narrowed the main body to make it more readable for users with smaller (640x480) screens.  If you have a problem, let me know.

May 8, 1998. Travelog.net is picked as "Internet Top Ten"

May 6, 1998. Travelog.net is picked as an "Internet Cool Site of the Day"

May 5, 1998. Travelog.net is picked as Lonely Planet's "Token Site."

May 4, 1998. Travelog.net gets a whole new look.  I got bored of the old one...

May 3, 1998. Travelog.net was picked as Project Cool's "Sighting" for May 3. 1998.  Cool.

April 29, 1998. Travelog.net was listed as "Hot Site of the Day" by USA Today.

April 20, 1998. Travelog.net was picked as one of Yahoo's "Picks of the Week."  A sleepy (but cool!)  backwater site goes from no flow to mainstream overnight!

Bribe Counter
To date: US$ 305.71 has been laid out to officials for miscellaneous bribes and other petty extortions.  For other weird travel stats, see the Travelog.net Bizarre index.

My Picks
Here are some of the things that I found most interesting.

Awards & Press
I thought the web site was cool.  So did Mom.  But we both think I am good looking too...

But it seems there are others who think the web site is cool, check out the recent spate of award and nods Travelog.net has garnered! (link coming soon)

A Request:
I have re-designed the whole site to (theoretically) improve ease of viewing in all major web browsers and to make individual pages easier to link to.  If you encounter any problems, let me know what the problem is and what browser you are using (for example, "Internet Explorer 3.0 for Windows 95," "Nestscape Communicator 4.0 for Macintosh," or "I don't have a clue, this is my girlfriend's computer" and I will try to fix it.
