Comments from Travelog.net Readers

My thanks to the hundreds of readers who have taken the time to drop me a line telling me how much they enjoyed Travelog.net.  I am delighted and flattered.  You are the people who keep my spirits up, keep me motivated, keep me doing all the work!

Here is what some readers have said about Travelog.net:

Just a quick note to tell you how much I am enjoying Travelog.net. I check every day to see if you have added anything new and when you have I read it greedily, savoring every word. It sounds like I may be exaggerating but I am not. I love the balance you strike between describing the places you are visiting and the personal anecdotes. The complement each other perfectly!

naja7@aol.com

Way cool site - I really enjoyed it - probably because this is something "I've always wanted to do." Maybe I'm a step closer after seeing your site. I will be back often. Thanks!

ccarter@rego.net

Here's a suggestion: don't bother returning to the US. We have all the idiots we need at the moment.  (ed. note: I have to share all sides!)

dyuhas@earthlink.net

I admire your techno adventure. The time is definitely ripe for a real person do a virtual travel log. The slick glossed over approach really is impersonal and insipid. I see what you're doing as a one-man band doing his own photo-journalist "thing". The buck really does stop with you. Keep up the good work!

phicket@sedona.net

Just wanted to let you know that you were part of the inspiration and motivation for my trip to Europe. I'm leaving June 2nd, and am tentatively scheduled to return at the end of July. Hopefully I can find a way to travel longer to more places.

jdohrmann@leapnet.com

I've been having the best time following all of your adventures ever since your web page was published on Yahoo's Cool Picks! I've even got in bookmarked. The first thing I do when I get back to the office and get to a LAN connection is to check and see what adventures you've been having. I'm sure you've heard this a million times, but it's always been a dream of mine to see the world and experience different cultures firsthand (particularly Africa and South America). So, until I can get there for real, it's great to live vicariously through you! I just wanted to tell you how much I'm enjoying your web site!

David.Evans@rich.frb.org

You rock my friend!!! I'm so stoked to find your site!!! I just found it a half hour ago from the Sightings "pick of the day."I am on a 3 year kayaking journey from Vancouver, BC, to my home in Saint John, NB (on the east coast of Canada) - via Nicaragua. I have a website just like yours!!! We are the same dude. I know just what a hassle writing journals is.... How tired you are at the end of a day... but know that you must write. It sucks! But... I'm with ya man! It is cool to know that you are out there too buddy. I am totally impressed that you are able to get your pages on the net by the next day!!! WOW! (ed. note: Max’s web site rocks as well! http://www.solomax.com )

MAX@solomax.com

I really did love your travelog. Also, you have a fabulous web site.  The coolest I've seen yet.

wdickman@ix.netcom.com

Great net site. Looking forward to your reports especially southern China, how about Tibet?

losrobles@earthlink.net

I ran across your site by a friend's recommendation and I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy reading about your adventures.

bbcomp@indy.tds.net

Looking forward to reading more.

ms_ell@yahoo.com

Great concept for a site. Good luck on your travels. A friend just got back from two years traveling through Bulgaria, Italy, and SE Asia, and brought back an incredible collection of boring photos. Glad to see someone doing it right.

madstone@bardo.clearlight.com

Great site. Nice concept. Good design.  How is that for brevity?

praveen@allindia.com

I found your web site from Project Cool's Sightings, and your site really is cool! It helps that the current content is dear to my heart: travel and Hong Kong. Having lived in Hong Kong for 3 years from 1988-1991, it was interesting to read your comments about the place and to see your photos. Your site is well laid out. I'll be checking back in regularly to read your comments about the rest of your travels.

abenton@ccli.com

Hey you evil bastard! I liked your site You are doing exactly what I want to be doing... and hopefully will be doing sometime around the beginning of next year. congratulations for doing something that you love. I found the technical stuff interesting. Keep up the good work.

larry@alaska.net

I enjoyed reading every word of your travelogue. Our newspaper The St. Petersburg Times suggested it as being very interesting. The pictures are beautiful. One of the best Web site I saw so far. Thank you.

jcarr@ij.net

I've dropped by your site a few times and have thoroughly enjoyed. Our local newspaper web site person found it and mentioned it. It's good to have someone take "real" pictures of places they've visited. You know, the kind most people enjoy, not those posed, professional advertising kind.

AWKnowlden@worldnet.att.net

A few of our readers have suggested your site recently, I must admit it is very good and as a former Asia backpacker I am quite jealous. It brings back a lot of great memories. Sincerely Mat Wright, Hostelwatch. http://www.hostelwatch.com

bauhaus@innet.be

I really enjoy following you around on your trip.

JONAS.KRENSLER@unisource-ucs.com

Would of put it in the UK Yellow Pages top ten--only its hosted in the States. But seeing as your asking for viewers opinions on it . I'd say 'nice one matey'. And can I join you? Angela Kenedy, Internet Researcher. http://www.yell.co.uk

AngelaK@yellowpages.co.uk

I am a 25 year old student living in Asheville, North Carolina. I am hoping to do a trip similar to yours so I have been doing some research and I found your log on the net. It is great to be able to follow you as it happens. I never thought much about Hong Kong before but now it is certainly on my list. Well, I am looking forward to following your trip and learning from you in preparation for mine (sometime in early '99).

smr1@mindspring.com

You the man! I had the same idea to travel around the world and I thought I was the first person to have this crazy idea, then I saw your web site and I found a friend.

charles_wilson@hotmail.com

Hi.  I found your site very interesting and am anxious to see more.

marine@neca.com

Greattttt Site! Really enjoyed the site. I got linked in from my Yahoo weekly pics, and am glad I did.

Magestar52@aol.com

I envy you! On behalf of all the wanderers out there who are stuck in a 9 to 5, keep up the good work by giving us a piece of what we'd rather be doing!

macrowe@revolutionist.com

I LOVE your site!! THX for the energy! As a 6th grade teacher in the USA, I have to say that I'd use your site in class except for the occasional swears... <smile> I will keep tuned, tho~~~~

rhodes@hypernet.com

What a great idea!  Enjoyed your site immensely.

Bujda.Esther.E@bhp.com.au

Great site.

mcdaniel@pacificrim.net

Thank you and congratulations for your site! It's great experiment. You gave me the urge to start travelling again!

doublep@gol.com

What to say? This is excellent AND really inspiring. Keep going!

benoist@trucmushe.u-net.com

I love your photography! I stumbled onto you site a while back and have enjoyed your travels thus far. Keep up the great work.

cwright@lightcom.net

waycool

dvaughan@sabre.com

Wanted to let you know that I am thoroughly enjoying your travels and commentary on your trip. I am completely in awe of how "cool" your site is--in fact that's how I became aware of it. Your site was the "Cool Web Site of the Day" of my local 'net provider. I've used several of your pictures as "wallpaper" for my desktop and check your site frequently. Love the new look. Can imagine it will be even better with your new equipment. Keep up the good work.

shator@pcfl.net

Looking forward to reading more of your adventures.

johnl@polymecca.com

I find your travel stories very interesting. Especially when they were written from a foreigner's (or, a traveler's) point of view. I've been living in Hong Kong for a long time but I seldom get to explore the city.

franyuen@hotmail.com

Just saw your site for the first time from the Yahoo picks of the week. Good for you - and thanks for all the information you've provided. You are an inspiration to us all!

photoworks@market.theatre.co.za

Hi! I just stumbled upon your web site yesterday and I think it is fantastic! I love traveling myself - I've been all over Europe and Japan and it's wonderful! I think it's great how you just stopped everything, took control of your life and took off. :o) I love reading about the different places you're going and your conversational style of writing is a lot of fun to read. I just wanted to write and tell you you have one more fan :o) So have fun - wish I was there and be careful! :o)

carrie1@nettally.com

Just a quick note to congratulate you on a great site. I did a similar journey myself a few years ago (London - India - SriLanka - Thailand - Aus - NZ - US - London) which was the best thing I ever did. Your accounts have triggered all sorts of memories for me, and made me think of setting off again.

orlando@mindless.com

This is the most interesting site I've come across in my search for travel info. Great links, too! You've done a really good job with this. Thanks.

dbleau@flash.net

Congratulations... on making your dreams become reality. I found the link to your web page at "hot sites" in the USA Today. Touring your site has been awe-inspiring. You are doing what most people will only ever dream of doing. I am sure you realize that. I will be looking forward to future additions. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put it all together to share with those of us who are still dreaming. I admire your sense of adventure and deep-seated courage.

sunny120@datasync.com

I love your site and adventures. Keep up the great dispatches.

hughb@webtv.com

Hi! Love your web site. You bet, I will travel along with you!! I am a 68 year old grandmother who always loved adventure-- can't do it backpack style now but will enjoy it through your efforts. Thank you for creating such a charming web site and for doing all that is necessary to allow us to "travel along" with you!! God bless you.

delstret@sunline.net

Your site is amazing, especially considering that you're publishing from the road-- often an "unde(r)veloped road" as far as the internet is concerned. Wonderful mix of photos and good storytelling. I look forward to reading more about your adventures. Simply reading my journal takes me forever back to all the incredible people and places and times in my personal journey. Look at what technology has enabled you to do! Share your experiences with the world.

khale@wenet.net

Just wanted to take a minute to let you know that I've spent the past 2 days reading all of your log entries and exploring your web site. Found this site while wandering the Web, and I'm impressed. To spend 2 years wandering the world, and posting the whole thing to the 'Net is quite an undertaking. I've found the whole thing quite interesting. I have enough troubles keeping up my own web site from my office. To do it from all sorts of conditions all over the world in truly amazing. Please keep up the good work!

dcarter@eagle.ycp.edu

Hi John. Jeff Dunn here. I'm from Los Angeles who stumbled across your site and who, like you, shares a deep love for independent travel, I intend to follow your travels for as long as you're able to continue your real-time travel log. Thank you very much for all the effort you're putting into this. It's a wonderful idea, and for fellow backpackers who cannot be on the road right now, we are able to indulge our passion vicariously through you!!

jdunn@co.la.ca.us

In case no-one else has told you, and probably zillions have, thanks for keeping travelog trucking along. There are lots of people like me who have too many ties...kids, aging parents, dogs, work, just name it!...who devour each new day as it comes online, wishing we were there too.

rosmci@wantree.com.au

Very cool site....... I've just come back from a month in Vietnam, so your photographs and stories making me want to go back!

coskermj@bp.com

Great web site! It's very nicely put together. I'm always on the look out for new travelogues and I love it when I come across a good one.

dfranke@lausd.k12.ca.us

I was very pleased to come across your Travel.net page. Lots of great stuff there. I've been thinking a lot about the Phillipines lately and enjoyed reading your accounts.

mdonath@coldstorage.com.sg

Just a quick note to tell you how much I enjoy following your travels as you post your experiences to your web page. I have only known about your site for a month so I guess that I am not what you would call a long term follower but I enjoy reading about your experiences none the less.

A Request:
I have re-designed the whole site to (theoretically) improve ease of viewing in all major web browsers and to make individual pages easier to link to.  If you encounter any problems, let me know what the problem is and what browser you are using (for example, "Internet Explorer 3.0 for Windows 95," "Nestscape Communicator 4.0 for Macintosh," or "I don't have a clue, this is my girlfriend's computer" and I will try to fix it.
